Paston Ridings Primary school is part of the Spirit Federation. St John's Church School formed this federation with Winyates over 12 years ago, Barnack Primary school in January 2020 and most recently Paston Ridings Primary School joined in May 2023. This federation has grown from strength to strength.

Together we are called Spirit, this name inspires us to have fortitude and tenacity. Paston Ridings Primary School is a school with an exciting spirit and one I encourage you to visit.

💫 What an amazing half term we've had so far in PE!

🗺 We've experienced a fantastic range of activities, from orienteering and map reading skills (boosting team building and problem-solving) to diving into the sport of hockey. The children have been making fantastic progress, successfully mastering their ball control skills—including precise passing, blocking, and tackling.

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome @childrensbkshow and children's author @whatsfsaid (S.F. Said, creator of Varjak Paw and Tyger) to our school this week!

📝 Our children in Leopard's class participated in a truly wonderful writing workshop. S.F. encouraged them to tap into their imaginations and draft the opening lines of their very own stories. It was delightful to see them redraft, refine, and produce such creative ideas in a short time. We definitely have some budding authors in our midst!

🎉 Our pupils had an amazing time visiting Peterborough Cathedral this week!

We learnt all about the beautiful building and its incredible history, explored what happens during a baptism and christening, and even got creative by making our own stained glass window designs!

⛪ The children loved spotting all the patterns and shapes in the Cathedral’s stunning architecture — such a fantastic mix of art, learning, and discovery.

🐈🐇🐕 Year 3 had a special visit from @woodgreenpeterborough, an animal charity, as part of their learning about animals and how to care for them.

The children were fascinated to learn about the different ways animals communicate their feelings and how we can understand their behaviour. The team from Woodgreen shared lots of interesting facts about pets and their needs, helping the children to think about the importance of kindness, responsibility, and empathy towards animals.

🦴 As part of their science topic on the human body, Year 3 had an exciting and hands-on learning experience by drawing a life-size skeleton!

🖍Working together, the children carefully outlined the shape of the skeleton on large sheets of paper and then used what they had learned in class to label the different bones, including the skull, ribcage, spine, and femur.

This creative activity helped bring their learning to life, allowing them to explore how the human skeleton supports our bodies and protects vital organs. The final piece was proudly displayed in the classroom for everyone to admire! 🌟

🎉 We are excited to announce that our school has been selected to participate in a new program connecting UK and Ukrainian schools! We've been partnered with Zdolbuniv Lyceum school in western Ukraine.

🇵🇱 Our Head of School, Mrs Jones, has just returned from a workshop in Poland where she met Inna, an English teacher from our partner school. The goal is to build a lasting connection and an understanding of each other's cultures through a shared love of reading. 📖

The children in Year 5 have already begun this journey by writing letters, and we were so touched to receive beautiful, handmade bookmarks in return.

We are absolutely privileged to be working with @woodgreenpetscharity over the next 6 weeks. They will be coming in to educate some of Y5 and 6s, who are attending Pet Club. Children will be learning how to care for our furry friends!

All classes will also be part of a pet workshop, where they will enhance their knowledge on looking after pets. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our children to develop compassion and responsibility towards animals.

In Leopards Class, the children are diving into the life of Queen Victoria! To really get into character, they used a drama technique called 'conscience alley'.

This involved one child taking on the role of Queen Victoria, walking between two lines of their peers. On one side, children offered reasons to persuade her to embrace her royal duties, while the other side tried to discourage her. It was a great way for the children to think critically and come up with some very persuasive arguments.

Our young "Queen Victoria" was in a real pickle trying to decide which path to take!
