Paston Ridings Primary school is part of the Spirit Federation. St John's Church School formed this federation with Winyates over 12 years ago, Barnack Primary school in January 2020 and most recently Paston Ridings Primary School joined in May 2023. This federation has grown from strength to strength.

Together we are called Spirit, this name inspires us to have fortitude and tenacity. Paston Ridings Primary School is a school with an exciting spirit and one I encourage you to visit.

🎄We've had another few fun-packed weeks in PE as we approach the Christmas holidays!

We've attended multiple competitions and a handful of league fixtures, with some friendly matches played (including our Year 5 and 6 girls kicking off the first game of the season with a 1-0 win against Welland Academy!)

The children have loved furthering their hockey skills and taking part in even more exciting OAA lessons. The children are continuing to show great excellence and determination towards PE. 💫

We had a fantastic time visiting Tallington Farm for our Christmas tree trip! 🎄

Louise and farm dog Gordon welcomed us and showed us how to feed the birds, spotting robins, great tits, and blue tits along the way. We learned about the local wildlife, animal tracks, and how to protect newly planted trees from deer and other animals.

The children even got hands-on, planting Christmas trees and putting guards around them to keep them safe. On the way back, they had lots of fun splashing through the puddles! 🌧️🐾

What an exciting Christmas experience at West Lodge Farm! 🤩

Our Highlights:

🐰We said hello to the animals before performing a wonderful version of ‘The Nativity Story’ in the barn, complete with costumes and carols! 🌟

🚨We successfully navigated 'Elf Security' and, luckily, we were all good this year! We transformed into elves with our hats and rosy red cheeks. 💚

💌 Next we visited the Christmas Post Office, where we wrote our letters to Father Christmas, drawing what we would like to receive.

🦌🥕 Then we created our own reindeer food! We each chose different natural ingredients and are looking forward to sprinkling them outside our homes on Christmas Eve.

🎁 Shhh! We quietly woke up Father Christmas and he confirmed we were all on the nice list (phew!) and got to choose an early present!

It was a truly magical and exciting day 🎄

🌱 Year 3 became detectives this week as they investigated soil from our school grounds.

🔎 First, they looked closely at the soil’s texture, colour and how it felt—was it gritty, smooth or sticky? Then they tested its permeability by pouring water onto the sample to see how quickly it soaked through.

We certainly unearthed some fascinating facts about what's right beneath our feet!

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome @childrensbkshow and children's author @whatsfsaid (S.F. Said, creator of Varjak Paw and Tyger) to our school this week!

📝 Our children in Leopard's class participated in a truly wonderful writing workshop. S.F. encouraged them to tap into their imaginations and draft the opening lines of their very own stories. It was delightful to see them redraft, refine, and produce such creative ideas in a short time. We definitely have some budding authors in our midst!

🎉 Our pupils had an amazing time visiting Peterborough Cathedral this week!

🐈🐇🐕 Year 3 had a special visit from @woodgreenpeterborough, an animal charity, as part of their learning about animals and how to care for them.

The children were fascinated to learn about the different ways animals communicate their feelings and how we can understand their behaviour. The team from Woodgreen shared lots of interesting facts about pets and their needs, helping the children to think about the importance of kindness, responsibility, and empathy towards animals.

🦴 As part of their science topic on the human body, Year 3 had an exciting and hands-on learning experience by drawing a life-size skeleton!

🖍Working together, the children carefully outlined the shape of the skeleton on large sheets of paper and then used what they had learned in class to label the different bones, including the skull, ribcage, spine, and femur.

This creative activity helped bring their learning to life, allowing them to explore how the human skeleton supports our bodies and protects vital organs. The final piece was proudly displayed in the classroom for everyone to admire! 🌟

🎉 We are excited to announce that our school has been selected to participate in a new program connecting UK and Ukrainian schools! We've been partnered with Zdolbuniv Lyceum school in western Ukraine.

🇵🇱 Our Head of School, Mrs Jones, has just returned from a workshop in Poland where she met Inna, an English teacher from our partner school. The goal is to build a lasting connection and an understanding of each other's cultures through a shared love of reading. 📖

The children in Year 5 have already begun this journey by writing letters, and we were so touched to receive beautiful, handmade bookmarks in return.
