Year 2 have had an exciting and inspiring term, packed with hands-on learning! In English, we’ve been exploring the topic of deforestation and its impact on our world. We've been captivated by the stories The Great Kapok Tree and Tim Tom and the Rainforest, which helped us think about the importance of protecting our environment. We then continued this topic in Geography, where we compared the physical and human features of the rainforest with our local Barnwell Nature Reserve. It was fascinating to spot the differences and similarities between such contrasting environments.
In Science, we’ve been investigating how plants grow and what they need to survive, using the acronym MRS GREN to help us remember the seven life processes. We even explored the inside of a seed and learnt about germination!
In PSHE, our focus has been on the world of work and money—learning about different jobs, how people in our community help us and understanding the importance of saving and how we can earn money ourselves.
In Computing, we’ve been getting creative with coding using Scratch Jr. We’ve built our own simple algorithms, programming characters to move, talk, and change backgrounds. We even discovered that different command sequences can achieve the same outcomes - it really made us feel like real coders!
And of course, one of the highlights of our term was our incredible trip to Hamerton Zoo. It was a fantastic day filled with fun, learning, and plenty of animal encounters. Head over to our social media pages to see some amazing photos and hear all about it!
