What a busy and exciting half term Dolphins have had! Year 3 have been travelling back in time to the Stone Age, immersing themselves in the lives of early humans through hands-on learning and cross-curricular activities.
As part of our history topic, the children visited Flag Fen Archaeology Park, where they took part in a range of practical activities that brought the Stone Age to life. Highlights included comparing different types of Stone Age homes, creating rock art, making clay pots, and even handling real artefacts from the period. It was a truly memorable experience that sparked lots of curiosity and discussion back in the classroom.
In English, our writing has been inspired by The Stolen Spear, an exciting Stone Age adventure story. The children used the text as an inspiration for writing in character, producing thoughtful apology and thank-you letters. This work has helped them explore character emotions and motivations while also developing their skills in letter writing and empathy.
In Science, we’ve been learning all about the human body and what it needs to stay healthy. The children explored the different food groups and their role in a balanced diet, learned about the structure and function of the skeleton, and even worked together to create and label a life-size skeleton! We also investigated how our muscles work with our bones to help us move, and began classifying animals as vertebrates and invertebrates. The children have shown fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm throughout this topic.
We were also very fortunate to receive a visit from Wood Green, The Animals Charity. The children took part in an engaging session focused on pet welfare, learning how to care for different animals and understanding the responsibilities that come with being a pet owner. It was a valuable opportunity to reinforce compassion and responsibility through real-life learning.
Well done, Dolphins, for a fantastic half term of discovery and engagement!
