Attendance

It is in your child's best interests to attend school regularly and on time.  As a School we monitor carefully the absences of our pupils and work closely with the Local Authority Attendance Officer to maintain and improve our attendance rates.

The average attendance for a school age child is above 95%.

Absences

Children may only be absent from school for medical reasons or other very exceptional circumstances.

We ask parents/carers to contact the school as soon as possible to let us know about any absence.  In the event that we are not notified, the school will contact you.

Leave of Absence

We would discourage parents from taking any leave of absence during term time.  If this is unavoidable, we would ask you to complete a  'Leave of Absence Request Form' to let us know of your intention.

This form is available to be downloaded below.

It may be possible for this absence is 'authorised' by the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher but this would largely depend on if there are exceptional circumstances.  If your child's absence is not approved it could lead to a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority.

Persistant Absentees

If your child's attendance is below 90% it will be monitored closely. You may be contacted by the school to attend a meeting at school, or may be contacted by our Local Authority Attendance Officer, Mrs Sarina Singh, to attend a meeting at Sand Martin House. You will then be asked to provide medical evidence every time your child is absent from school.

If your child has 8 days of absence which is unathorised in an 8 week period the school may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice.

Lateness

The school day begins from 8.30am and you will be informed of your child's class start time.  Children are collected from the playground by their teachers. If your child arrives 10 minutes after the class start time, they will be late.

If your child arrives whilst the register is open (between 10 and 20 minutes after the start time) they will receive an L mark (late).

If your child arrives 20 minutes or more after their start time they will receive a U mark (unauthorised late).  This will impact on your child's attendance.
